Course Requirements

Bachelor in Theology (B.Th) (Total 120 units)


Purpose ;
     The purpose of the Bachelor in Theology program is to enable students to explore the Christian faith in an academic setting. The foundation of the program is knowledge of the Scripture, which is acquired through courses in the Old and New Testaments. Further, classes in systematic and historical theology allow for in-depth consideration of important doctrine, practices and traditions.

Description ;
     Students receive the Bachelor in Theology degree when they complete ; a minimum of 120 semester units; Required Bible Languages ; (6) units; Required Biblical Courses ; (48) units; Required Theology Courses (12) units; Required Church History Courses ; (6) units; Required Counseling and Education Courses ; (12) units; Required Ministry Courses ; (36) units. A minimum full-time course load is (9) units per semester. A maximum full-time load is (15) units per semester; however, students may petition for additional units if their cumulative average is 3.0.

Master of Divinity (M.Div) (Total 90 units)


Purpose ;
     The purpose of the Master of Divinity program is to train men and women for ministries in the church. Graduates of the program generally seek to become ordained ministers of instruction and leadership in the church.

Description ;
     The program, however, is not designed to meet any course requirements for examination or licensure for ordained church ministry. Generally, the M.Div. program emphasizes spiritual formation and intellectual and professional development in exploring and communicating the Bible’s instruction for faith and life. The curriculum is concentrated in three basic areas ; the study of the Bible for knowledge of its basic content; the study of theology for an understanding of the nature of the Christian faith and life; and the study of pastoral ministry for the development of ministry skills and styles. Students receive the Master of Divinity degree when they complete 90 units of course work, and the Bible Comprehensive Test. Students receive the Master of Divinity degree when they complete ; a minimum of 90 semester units; Required Bible Languages ; (6) units; Required Biblical Courses ; (24) units; Required Theology Courses (24) units; Required Church History Courses ; (12) units; Required Ministry Courses ; (24) units. A minimum full-time course load is (9) units per semester. A maximum full-time load is (15) units per semester; however, students may petition for additional units if their cumulative average is 3.0.

Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) (Total 39 units)


Purpose ;
     Purpose of the Doctor of Ministry program is to provide an advanced study in the practice of ministry for ordained ministers in the church or related ministries.

Description ;
     This program combines advanced biblical and theological education with advanced training in classic pastoral disciplines such as preaching, church growth, and leadership. Applicants must hold a Master of Divinity or equivalent degree and have been engaged in significant professional ministry for at least three years after receiving a Master of Divinity degree or have practical ministry experience for seven years after completing a Bachelor of Theology degree. The requirements for the doctoral degree are 30 credit units offered over 6 semesters and the successful completion of a 9 credit doctoral dissertation. Generally, a total of 30 credits of 5 courses (6 credits) are offered in the summer and winter semesters. Students generally take one course each semester and complete all required courses in three years. Each PhD program has three components. Assigned pre-session readings, week-long lecture sessions, and post-session reports incorporating readings, lectures, and field experiences. A special project/final thesis may focus on the study of an important issue, the development of a new program, or an in-depth case study of a ministry context.
